Dr. Erin Kunkel grew up in the DC metro area. She conducted her BA in Theater at Middlebury College, her premedical training at Columbia University, her MD at Brown University, and her residency in OB/GYN at Pennsylvania Hospital of UPenn. She returned to RI after residency and spent 7.5 years practicing as a board-certified general OB/GYN. Throughout her time in that practice, she fell in love with working with women in midlife, supporting them through the unique challenges posed by the late reproductive years, perimenopause, and through to postmenopause. To better support these patients, she completed a professional training certification in Women’s Integrative and Functional Medicine, became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), & attained board certification in Obesity Medicine (DABOM). Her areas of expertise include general gynecology, PCOS, abnormal uterine bleeding, perimenopause and menopause, and weight management. When not working, she can be found exploring new parks and hikes with her husband and daughter, browsing plant nurseries with aspirational garden visions in mind, cooking, or just drinking coffee with a good book or a good friend.

Dr. Ashley Lakin grew up in Maryland, attended Dickinson College, and found her way to Philadelphia for medical school at PCOM. Unable to choose between caring for children or pregnant people, she found her home in family medicine with obstetrics. Brown’s Family Medicine residency brought her to RI with her husband and introduced her to her friends and future colleagues Drs. Hedde & Turshen. After graduating from residency, she completed 2 years of fellowship in Maternal-Child Health at Brown, and is proud to be one of the only Breastfeeding Medicine physicians in RI. When not working, she can be found covered in dirt– either from her ever-expanding garden or because her 3 wild boy children are often filthy. She and her crew love living in RI and can be often found playing on the Narragansett Bay.
